DAY 1: HOME TO MUDGEE

Tuesday 14 May 2024

Greeted with a smile on-board Tinonee Bus Company’s touring coach, we are
ready for our 3 day tour to the Mudgee Gulgong Region. Sit back, relax and
meet your fellow travellers as we make our way to Gloucester – a town known
as the gateway to the Barrington Tops. It’s a charming place nestled in a
valley under a range of impressive monolith hills called The Bucketts. Following
breakfast we will have a visit to Ashmar Farmstay, set on a 500-acre Hereford
Cattle stud farm. With spectacular views across the property and beyond, it is
the perfect place to enjoy morning tea. From here we continue on to
Singleton for lunch at the Diggers Club before making our way to Mudgee.
Nestled in a soft, green valley, it has become renowned for wine and honey.
Many of the fine old stately buildings from the last century remain and most
are now classified by the National Trust, so as to preserve the town’s heritage.
We check into our hotel for the next two nights, so unpack and settle in before
dinner.

DAY2: TOURING MUDGEE

Wednesday 15 May 2024

This morning we are met by our locally based guide for a tour of the town.
Architect Robert Hoddle designed the town street plan, which proved to be so
successful that Melbourne was designed from the same basic grid. He
designed Mudgee’s wide streets to be broad enough to turn a team of oxen.
Farewelling our guide, we head to Honey Haven to experience some local
honey and mead. Next up is the iconic Gooree Park. As one of the region’s
most historic and picturesque properties, Gooree Park today has an enviable
reputation as a leading thoroughbred breeding ground and with the largest
vineyard in the area, more recently is gaining attention for award winning
wines! On arrival we enjoy an informative tour followed by a delicious lunch
and a wine tasting. We return to Mudgee where the remainder of the
afternoon is free to explore Arts and Craft Mudgee – a local gallery within the
beautifully restored historic railway station containing the works of over 20 local
artisans and producers. After a fantastic day exploring Mudgee, we return to
the hotel for our farewell dinner.

DAY 3: EXPLORING GULGONG TO HOME

Thursday 16 May 2024

Sadly, our tour must come to an end today. Having farewelled Mudgee, we
spend the morning exploring Gulgong; a local guide will board the coach to
take us on an intriguing tour of this historic town highlighting many of the points
of interest. The old gold town was once described as, believe it or not, “the
hub of the world!” Gulgong was also the boyhood home of the author Henry
Lawson who grew up at nearby Eurunderee and attended the “Old Bark
School”. He was inspired by the Gulgong goldrush days to write his poem “the
Roaring Days”. After our town tour we visit the Henry Lawson Centre– a living
memorial to one of Australia’s greatest storytellers and houses a collection of
Lawsonia. It’s time to sit back and relax as we make our way through to
Denman for lunch before calling in at Kurri Kurri. The Kurri Kurri Murals Project
the largest outdoor display in mainland Australia and surrounding villages have
over 60 outdoor public artworks on display, showcasing the history and
heritage of this region. The murals provide a visual journey, telling the stories of
the people, events and places that shaped the area’s unique character,
culture and heritage. The image of a kookaburra, the emblem of Kurri Kurri, is
contained in each of the murals. See how many you can spot! All too soon we
arrive home with our bags packed full of memories having completed a
fabulous getaway to Mudgee and Gulgong.
