Description
DAY 1: TAREE/FORSTER TO DUBBO
Monday 31st April 2025
Welcome to our 4 day getaway to the Golden West of NSW. Sit back and meet
your fellow travellers as we depart home. Travelling via Raymond Terrace we
reach the Hunter Valley mid-morning where we discover the sensational sights,
colours and fragrances of the stunning Hunter Valley Gardens. We enjoy a
delicious morning tea in the Tea House before exploring over 25 hectares of
spectacular flowers, trees and shrubs. Take in the views from the lookout, rest
above the waterfalls in the Sunken Garden or step back in time with your
favourite characters in the Storybook Garden. We’ll finish our morning here
with a stroll through the Shopping Village. We reach Denman where the
friendly folk at the Denman Hotel will be waiting to greet us for lunch. Back on
board we head for Dubbo, arriving late afternoon. We are here for the next
three nights so now is the time to find our rooms and settle in.

DAY2: TARONGA WESTERN PLAINS ZOO
Tuesday 1st May 2025
We begin our touring at the Taronga Western Plains Zoo – home to more than
1100 animals from around the world, many of them endangered species. The
zoo is in the unique position to allow many of the animals to roam freely and to
be viewed without the visual barriers of fences, bars or glass, instead using a
system of dry and water filled moats. A zoo keeper will step onboard our
coach and explain the open range layout and some of the behind-the-scenes
operations of the Zoo. Leaving the park, we discover Dundullimal Homestead.
We’ll be led through the historic homestead where the slab house and stone
stables that remain, bear testimony to the hardships and conditions of colonial
life. After an early dinner this evening, we’re off to the Dubbo Observatory for
a night sky and telescope tour. On a clear evening we listen to an astronomy
presentation where stars, planets and constellations are unveiled. Through a
telescope, witness the wonders of the skies and the galaxies that are out of our
reach. What a fantastic way to end our day!
Breakfast & dinner at the Hotel | Lunch own arrangements at Zoo
DAY 3: AVIATION PAST & PRESENT
Wednesday 2nd may 2025
Exploring local sights today, we set off for nearby Narromine. Situated on the
Macquarie River, this place is home to Glenn McGrath. Visiting the Narromine
Aviation Museum we’ll discover a captivating exhibition of artefacts,
documents and photographs which tell the story of aviation as it unfolded on
one of Australia’s most historic aerodromes. Lunch has been arranged for us at
the quirky and unique Soul Food Depot & Gallery housed in Narromine’s iconic
packing shed. Back in Dubbo, we make our way to the Old Dubbo Gaol for a
self-guided tour. Originally a courthouse lockup, it closed operations as a
penal institution in 1966. Now a tourist attraction, it has been fully restored and
home to a large display of animatronic models and holographic displays
which provide a realistic and fascinating insight into a bygone era of barbaric
prison life. Our final visit today, is to the Royal Flying Doctor Service Visitor
Experience. We’ll spend the remainder of our afternoon being entertained by
stories of heroic doctors, nurses and pilots of their challenges performing
lifesaving medical care across remote areas of Australia.
Breakfast and Dinner at hotel | Lunch at Soul Food Depot & Gallery
DAY 4: DUBBO – HOME
Thursday 3rd May 2025
Sadly, our tour must come to an end today. Farewelling our hosts, we make
our way south arriving to the Wellington Caves. Our guided tour will unearth a
hidden and ancient landscape. The natural beauty of the caves will be long
talked about on our drive through to Gulgong for our lunch at the CWA Hall.
After an enjoyable lunch we continue on to Merriwa where we view the
Merriwa Art Silos depicting a flock of sheep wearing red socks in a canola
field, why the red socks? The artist pays homage to the town’s beloved annual
Festival of the Fleeces. We then express home with comfort stops along the
way.
